Funimation Gets Spice & Wolf!

Monday, May 25th, 2009

News that I’ve been waiting nearly a year to hear. . . Spice and Wolf is licensedin N.A.!@#  (you may squeal like a fan now).  And the licensor is Funimation, according to a news piece by Anime News Network.com per an annoucement at Anime Boston.  I’m really happy that Funi grabbed the license, because they will definitely devote the necessary resources for a deservingly awesome release of this fantastic show.

I’m salivating just thinking about the R1 release now. . .  Might as well grab an apple. . . ;)

That Sinking Feeling. . .

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Boy, what a difference one single, measly month can make!  Back in April, I was doing jump jacks when the dollar-yen exchange rate apreciated to 100 yen per dollar.  And ever since then, the dollar kept sinking like a rock.  As of this writing, the greenback is worth just 95.275 yen.  And I suspect it will head even lower this month.  Wow.  Talk about a see-saw currency exchange rate.  >_>

Upcoming new release of His & Her Circumstances DVD Collection

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Among the listings in the latest newsletter from Right Stuf is an upcoming release of His & Her Circumstances DVD Collection coming out at the end of August.  I’m a very big fan of His & Her.  In fact, I list the show among the top ten anime shows, all-time.  I think it’s got the perfect blend of high school romance and comedy.

I don’t know if I’ll get this particular set, since I already have the individual dvds releases plus box, and the thin-pak collection.  I’ll wait and see how the keep case turns out when it hits the retailer shelf, and decide at that time to purchase or not.  But if you haven’t seen this show yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? :P

Great New Newsletter Format, Right Stuf!

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

I just checked the latest email newsletter from Right Stuf, and I’m very impressed with their new format.  It’s got a nice banner at the top indicating the latest publisher sale (Del Rey), with links to the website, followed by latest weekly news, and then the weekly specials (non-adults only), and last but not least pre-orders.   I really like the way everything flows in one single email newsletter.  It’s informative, and helps busy consumers like myself keep up-to-date on the latest happenings in the world of anime and manga.

Good job, Right Stuf!

The next/new trend in anime collectibles. . . card sleeves?!@#$

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I dropped by ToysLogic.com to see if they have any recent updates for May, and I happen to come across a new item pre-order (randomized at the top of the home page) for an anime card sleeve.  Nosing around the site a bit more, I saw there’s plenty of card sleeves available.  You buy a pack of 60 card sleeves, retailing at 15 bucks on the retailer site, and they all come in one design, preferably with a favorite anime show character.

The idea behind it, I think,  is that you show off your cards to whoever, and emphasize the show you enjoy by using those card sleeves.   I could see someone trying to buy tons and tons of sleeves just to have it in his or her “collection.”  I personally wouldn’t pay for this sort of product, but I could see how some card collectors might go for it.

I just hope that card sleeve collectors don’t go overboard and buy every single release. . .  @_@

Del Rey increasing price of certain manga titles

Friday, May 8th, 2009

I didn’t see the post until Rightstuf mentioned it in its weekly newsletter, but Del Rey is increasing, by a buck and four cents (from 10.95 to 11.99), the cover price of a number of ongoing manga titles, including Nodame Cantabile, which I’m currently buying.   The full list of affected titles is available at Rightstuf’s website.  I’m quite curious as to why the price increase doesn’t hit all Del Rey releases, such as Negima and Parasyte.

The price increase isn’t a deterrent for me personally, and I can’t imagine it would disuade readers from buying these titles.  If Del Rey believes the price increase is necessary to cover production costs, maintain profitability, etc., then that’s fine with me.
